Kim Kardarshian has received bashing over the naming and trademarking of her shape-wear ‘Kimono,’ Kim has released a statement denying trampling on and disrespecting the Japanese culture.

Kim, insisted that the new line represents “inclusivity and diversity.”

I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture.

My solution wear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core ,and I’m incredibly proud of what’s to come.

She mentioned that she has no plans to design or release any garments that would in any way resemble or dishonour the traditional garment, neither does she have plans to change the name.

Reacting to the condemnation she received after trademarking the name ‘Kimono,’ Kim said,

Filing a trademark is a source identifier that will allow me to use the word for my shapewear and intimates line, but does not preclude or restrict anyone, in this instance, from making kimonos or using the word kimono in reference to the traditional garment.

Aside from the #KimOhNo hashtag that was used to demonstrate their displeasure, a petition had already been started by Sono Fukunishi on change.org and had been signed by over 10,000 people as of yesterday.

The petition calls the use of the name “horrible cultural disrespect and establishes that the name ‘Kimono’ means clothing in Japanese and should not be shared with an underwear brand.”
